At Mediterras, we believe that every bike tour can inspire change—not only in the lives of travelers but also in the places we visit. Thanks to the incredible support of our 2024 cyclists, we’re happy to share an exciting update on a project that’s close to our hearts: the “Bosco degli Abbracci” in Ragusa.
Ragusa, a highlight of our popular Sicily Baroque Self-Guided Bike Tour, is not just a place of timeless architecture and stunning landscapes. It’s also a city committed to building a greener, more sustainable future. This vision comes to life in the “Bosco degli Abbracci” (“Forest of Hugs”), an urban natural park that exemplifies the harmony between urban living and nature.
Together with the environmental organization Rimboschiamo and young volunteers from the civil service of the Municipality of Ragusa, the “Bosco degli Abbracci” has undergone a remarkable transformation. Just two years ago, the trees in this area were no more than seedlings, standing between 30 and 60 cm tall. Today, they have grown into thriving trees, many over 2 meters high, creating a lush space for both wildlife and the community.
Our recent collaboration included a critical phase: the mapping and geo-localization of the plants. This effort ensures proper care for the forest while enhancing its accessibility. Soon, a detailed map will be displayed at the park’s entrance, guiding visitors through this flourishing green oasis and showcasing the diversity of plant species within. More than just a navigational tool, this map symbolizes the collective effort of everyone involved—from the initial planting to the ongoing care of the forest.
The “Bosco degli Abbracci” is more than a park; it’s a beacon of hope and an example of how collaboration between local government, environmental groups, and citizens can create a better, greener future. By improving air quality, providing a habitat for local wildlife, and offering a space for community gatherings, this park enriches the lives of Ragusa’s residents and visitors alike.
