Departing from Trieste’s historic allure, we start our Parenzana Cycling Tour, pedaling along the scenic Giordano Cottur cycle path, a tribute to the local cycling legend. This path gently guides us towards the verdant hills cradling the city, offering a serene escape into nature’s embrace. As we bid farewell to the urban landscape, the trail meanders back to the azure embrace of the sea near the tranquil mouth of the Rio Ospo, marking a picturesque transition in our adventure.

We seamlessly merge onto the Parenzana route, an artery leading us heartily into Slovenia‘s welcoming arms. This path, rich with history and natural beauty, guides us to the enchanting city of Koper. We highly recommend indulging in a short detour to explore its captivating historic center, a mosaic of cultural heritage and architectural marvels.

Our journey continues, tracing the Slovenian coastline towards the vibrant town of Portoroz, a beloved gem on the Adriatic Sea. Known for its therapeutic coastal climate and lively spirit, Portoroz offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, inviting travelers to immerse themselves in its charming allure and seaside delights.

Today’s journey takes us from the sparkling Slovenian coast to the lush heart of Istria. We begin by passing the Secovlje salt pans, where the sea’s scent and the ancient art of salt harvesting fill the air. Leaving the coast behind, we explore a picturesque countryside dotted with olive groves and vegetable gardens before detouring through the charming village of Buje, which offers panoramic views and echoes of the past.

Our route then leads us toward Buzet. As we ascend gradually through fields and coniferous forests—reaching up to 450 meters—a thrilling descent into a pine-scented valley awaits. A final gentle climb brings us to Buzet, a romantic village celebrated for its historic allure, breathtaking vistas, and prized truffle, perfectly concluding a day of uncovering Istria’s hidden treasures.

Our journey culminates as we glide towards the azure embrace of the sea, reaching the coast of Poreč. This picturesque town welcomes us with open arms and marks the end of our magnificent ride, aptly named after this enchanting coastal gem.

Poreč is a charming coastal city known for its natural beauty, historical significance, and vibrant cultural scene. It is famous for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Euphrasian Basilica, which showcases stunning Byzantine art and architecture. A stroll around its marina and narrow cobbled streets lined with Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque buildings will be the ideal way to end this memorable journey.
